About the Author
Professional studio artist, teacher, ceramic historian, lecturer, and consultant, Robin Hopper has been working in the field of ceramics since 1955?nearly 50 years! Born in London and trained there at Croydon College of Art, he is primarily a studio potter. Robin has developed studios in both England and Canada, with working experience on four continents. Robin is author of Staying Alive: Survival Tactics for the Artist, The Ceramic Spectrum: A Simplified Approach to Glaze and Color Development, Functional Pottery: Form and Aesthetic in Pots of Purpose, and the updated and expanded edition of Clay and Glazes for the Potter, all published by Krause Publications. This is really the most extraordinary ceramics book that I have ever seen. I am so amazed at the quantity of ideas for surface treatment that I don't know where to begin and I can't wait to get started! An absolute MUST for anyone who needs ideas and a boost of enthusiasm, or for anyone who feels like they are getting bored or are just stuck in a ceramics rut. What a fun book!

Making Marks gets high marks!

Robin Hopper's Making Marks: Discovering he Ceramic Suface is an important source for contemporary clay workers. The text and illustrations are clear, concise and fun to read and use as guides to taking action with one's clay. I suggest it for all potters in search of techniques to use when treating the surfaces of the work.

It delves into all aspects of potting, and not only illustrates the results that can be achieved, it provides the "how to" for many of the processes. Short but a very amazing story, nonetheless!

Wow! Iloved this story. I really wasn't expecting this story to go the way it did, so that was a plus because it was so much better than I expected it to be. I guess it was the element of surprise that really sucked me in, and kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next. I LOVED that this wasn't one of those cookie cutter romances, where you know from the start where the story was headed before you even got past the first 4-5 chapters.

I also didn't exect King to be as shy as he was, when he was first introduced into the story, mainly because most men who have built an empire from practically nothing, ususally tend to be very outspoken and powerfully driven men. I loved Stephanie right from the start. She was my kind of woman, willing to stand her ground and fight for what was rightfully hers, no matter what. Lord's money and power wasn't going to change her mind.

Very good story, and very well written. I would love to know the reasoning behind Emma's bad attitude, when it comes to any dealings with Lord. Especially when she's such a sweetheart around everyone else. Guess I'll just have to check out the next book to find out.

I could not put thus book down. Once you start it pulls you in! I am looking forward to next book in series. Congrats Kendra Little on such a great read.

Love the King!

This is the first time reading a novel by this author but not the last and I'm looking to read more. The story was very well written with amazing supporting characters. I was at odd how the author wrote just enough to keep the readers on edge before revealing and unfolding the true secret to the building. The story was an introductory to Matthew King and Stephanie Prescott true connection to an old bookstore as well as the need for each other. Stephanie was a strong-willed trooper as she willing fought for what was hers and you have to just love her! At times it was emotional to see how Matt's mother health was deteriorating rapidly. I was extremely appalled at how shy Matt was and needed to be coached on his dating skills. I look forward to read the next installment in the Brotherhood Bachelors. KUDOS to the author!

More about the book..Most Up-to-date Content - Most of the content and all the practice questions in the CR Grail have been created after the launch of the Official Guide 13th edition. In fact, our team used the OG13 as a reference point when deciding which aspects of CR to focus on in the book. For example, other GMAT critical reasoning books cover pages discussing Main point questions but these rarely appear on the GMAT now. In fact the OG 13th ed does not contain any such questions. Similarly question types such as Logically complete the passage , which are increasingly being tested on the GMAT, find no mention in other critical reasoning books, whereas in the CR Grail we have dedicated an entire chapter to discussing this question type. So the CR Grail is the closest representation you can get of the kind of questions and topics tested on GMAT CR at the moment. Meaning oriented approach - A major grouse that students have against most of the Critical Reasoning books is that these books use complicated diagrams/symbols/jargon to explain CR arguments. In one such book, an entire chapter has been devoted to just explaining what these symbols stand for. While it is true that most CR arguments follow a basic structure, the stress always has to be on grasping the meaning of the argument. If you look at arguments very mechanically you will never be able to understand the hidden nuances that are present in difficult arguments.

Concepts like causality and passive assumptions became crystal clear to me

While CR was always my strong section, I picked up this book just to see if it could teach me something that I did not already know and to my surprise it did. And more than just one thing. Concepts like causality and passive assumptions became crystal clear to me, especially the manner in which they are tested on the GMAT, after going through this book. What I like the most about this book, and in fact about all the books by Aristotle, is the very hands-on manner in which they are written. They are crisp and to the point with no beating around the bush. Highly recommended even if you think you are good at CR as you will learn something new.

Easy and useful book

I like the approach authors chose to provide a material in the book. It is easy to read and understand. Humor of the authors makes it really funny to memorize facts that were previously thought as boring .

An Accurate Portrail of Life on Safari

Theodore Roosevelt has captured life on the safari brilliantly in this wonderfully written book. Having been to Kenya three times myself, I was able to relive my own experiences on the Dark Continent through T.R.'s words. He "shot" Africa with the use of his Springfield and Winchester, and I through my Minolta. But the excitement and adrenaline rush of viewing the magnificent beasts of the wild may be captured in similar ways. T.R.'s vivid descriptions of his adventures makes this depiction of Africa come to life. Through his use of graphic details of kills, life on safari, and portrayals of the people themselves makes this book worth reading. At times, I found it nearly impossible to put down. T.R. outdid himself with this one, and those who have never been to Africa, may be tempted upon the completion of this novel. I applaud this effort and recommend "African Game Trails" to anyone...

As acquaintances, associates or porters sicken, die of 'fevers' and illness, or get mauled by wild animals, TR troops along with vivid descriptions of his experiences doggedly hunting 'museum specimens' in early 20th century Africa. Obviously dated with references to 'white man's country' and such, Teddy shows leadership and compassion for all who accompany him on this long and arduous expedition.

Real Nuts & Bolts Time Management

This fine book stands alone as a real "nuts & bolts" guide to time management. Refreshingly, Griessman does not ask the reader to buy into an integrated or even singular "System" of managing your time. There are no self tests, no "12 Step" program, no gimmicks.
Quite simply, this book is about survival. If your boat were sinking or you were lost in the wilderness, the last thing you would want (or have time to read) would be a lengthy treatise on the theory of bouyancy or how people get lost. Rather, Griessman instructs from the outset that you "Learn survival techniques from the survivors."
In this vein, Griessman's approach is decidedly simple: 1)These are successful people; 2) Here are specific tactics that they use to save time and survive; 3) You fill in the blank. This format is woven into 15 short chapters with an accompanying commentary which is almost editorial in nature. This provides just enough cohesion in the book to give it structure, without detracting from its readability.
If you're looking for a lengthy treatise on time management, riddled with charts, self tests and lengthy explanations about why you don't have enough time, then leave this book on the shelf. "Time Tactics" is really a field manual - the same kind of lean, to the point writing you'd hope to find in a life raft.

Unlike most time management books going from chapter to chapter that lead readers to plan, set and prioritize their personal goals, treating time management problems essentially as life management problems, this book consists of 15 chapters of 96 short essays or tactics that you can easily apply to our daily lives. What a pity that Amazon does not post sample pages as it usually does which includes the Content pages so you can easily understand what kind of book this is, I take the pleasure to do it for you and hope it will help you grasp what the book tells.

"Chess: The Complete Guide to Chess" is a good basic resource for beginning chess players.

I recently purchased the Kindle version of “Chess: The Complete Guide to Chess - Master: Chess Tactics, Chess Openings and Chess Strategies” (shortened to “Chess” for this review) by Logan Donovan. I hoped to find short book that would help me fill in some of the areas about chess where my knowledge is lacking. I was somewhat disappointed by what I found. Although “Chess” is actually a well-written book, it is designed mostly for beginning chess players looking to learn the rules and basic concepts of the game.

“Chess” does a good job of teaching the basic rules of the game. It also effectively advises readers on some basic strategies and elemental openings, and it discusses some rudimentary tactics that beginning chess players should use. Everything is written in clear, concise, and easily comprehensible prose. Chess concepts are explained correctly and with authority.

I have two problems with “Chess.” The first is the quality of the book’s many diagrams. Like many other Kindle chess books I’ve read, the diagrams are too small and hard to read. My second problem is with the author – specifically, what are his or her chess credentials? Is this person a player with an “official” title (Grandmaster, International Master, etc.), or a journalist with demonstrated chess expertise? Or is she or he simply parroting the ideas and words of others? Nowhere in the book is there any information about the author, and an online search did not reveal any data that answer my questions.

I’m giving “Chess: The Complete Guide to Chess - Master: Chess Tactics, Chess Openings and Chess Strategies” four stars because it is a good resource for beginning chess players. However, more experienced players would do well to look elsewhere. Future editions of “Chess” would certainly be improved with diagrams that are easier to read, and more information about the author’s expertise. Recommended.

Great book! Very Informative.

This is a great learning and beginners guide to chess! Not only does it give a detailed description with images of how to play and basic moves/strategies, it covers techniques that beginners (such as myself) have never even heard of before! I feel entirely more confident about playing chess now that I understand the strategy behind the game and not just the way the players move. Too many games have been played in the past where I didn't even realize I was being set up until it was checkmate!
I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of the book and learning about the history of chess in different cultures. It was very neat to see the game progress throughout time.
I grew up playing, and always losing, against my grandpa and sometimes my dad. I can't wait to visit and "show them my moves" with the knowledge I've aquired from this book. Victory will be nice for a change! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is new to the world of chess or wants to learn how to play like a pro!

About the Author
Norm Supancheck was born in 1942 and grew up in Long Beach, California. He’s spent his life devoted to serving God and helping people. An ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 1968, Father Norm’s current assignment is chaplain at Alemany High School in Mission Hill, California, a position he has held since 2002. Fr. Norm leads various marriage enrichment programs through the Catholic Church including Retrouvaille, Marriage Encounter, and Engaged Encounter. He works with many youth training programs and is actively involved in a variety of community service organizations. Fluent in Spanish, Fr. Norm celebrates Mass in Spanish up to five times a month on El Sembrador TV Station (ESNE), which is broadcast worldwide. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. John Seminary and a master’s degree in applied theology from Graduate Theological Union.

Marcus Brotherton is a journalist and professional writer known internationally for his books and literary collaborations with high-profile public figures, humanitarians, inspirational leaders, and military personnel. Wonderful book! This priest understands what it is like to be married...

This is a wonderful book. This is a love story that begins with a young couple in love who make the decision not to get married. Father Norm shares in his book how their love continued throughout the remainder of their lives even though the love they shared was expressed differently than they had first imagined.

If you ever wondered how a priest can understand the marital relationship, this book is for you. I highly recommend it.

This is such a great book! I've known Father Norm for a few years and went on some of his retreats as a young adult. He is such an amazing man of faith, and encouragement. This book really shows you what real love is all about. I recommend this book to anyone who is searching for true love, who is looking for a reminder of that love, or who wants to know what it looks like.

When Love Calls is a delightful story not only of about love and spirituality, but also a historical overview of Los Angeles, the impact of his ministry through the years and around the world. Whether you know Father Norm or not, it is an honest and well written memoir that captures the reader early on. Father Norm does not shy away from sensitive events that were happening in the world, within the Church and of course, within himself. The book is an easy read and age appropriate for adults as well as teens.
